Color processing is a complex interaction between our eyes and brain. When light enters the eye, it stimulates cone cells in the retina, which send signals through the optic nerve to the brain. The process involves several steps:
- Initial detection by cone cells
- Signal transmission through the optic nerve
- Processing in the visual cortex
- Integration with memory and emotion
The brain’s visual cortex combines these signals with previous experiences and contextual information to create our perception of color. This is why colors can appear different under various lighting conditions or when surrounded by other colors (color contrast effect). Interestingly, color perception also influences our emotions and can affect memory recall and decision-making processes.
